NEWS of a new pill which will deliver perfume directly into the body has been causing a bit of a stir over the last few days.

Still very much in the development stage, Swallowable Parfum claims to be the answer to combating body odour problems.

The idea is you swallow a capsule which delivers perfume straight into the body, transforming the skin into an ‘atomiser’ and turning your sweat into scent.

Apparently, it will work with the natural processes of metabolism and release fragrant molecules through the surface of the skin during perspiration.

And because everyone is genetically unique, the scented sweat will take on a slightly different smell from person to person, making it a completely individual fragrance.

Swallowable Parfum is the work of Netherlands-based Australian artist Lucy McCrae, who is working with synthetic biologist Sheref Mansy to develop the prototype. No launch date has yet been given.

It’s an interesting concept, but will it really take off?

Do we really want to be popping even more pills than we do already? And let’s face it, a bottle of tablets is never going to look quite as good on your dressing table as those gorgeous perfume bottles we all love.
