NORTH East hairdressing group Hooker & Young are celebrating after Artistic Director Marcus King was named Men’s Hairdresser of the Year at the British Hairdressing Awards on Monday night.

Marcus, from Hooker & Young at Wynyard beat off rivals from across the UK to land the top accolade at a glittering London awards ceremony hosted by TV funnyman David Walliams.

With his stunning men’s collection, Marcus – who won the North Eastern Hairdresser of the Year title in 2012 – dazzled the judges once again to bring one of the awards’ biggest trophies to the region.

Hooker & Young’s Gary Hooker said he was thrilled that Marcus had once again been recognised for his incredible artistic work. “The British Hairdressing Awards are the most prestigious in the hairdressing industry and they are recognised worldwide,” he said.

“Michael and I are delighted to have such talent in our salon groups and we are immensely proud of our team. It continues to be our top priority to train, teach and encourage creativity.

“This award is superb news for the North East and the UK, as well as being incredible for our clients and future clients. Marcus King is now the British Men’s Hairdresser of the year and we truly do have the best team.”

Hooker & Young narrowly missed out on the coveted title of British Hairdresser of the Year after receiving their eighth consecutive nomination. The North Eastern title went to Jill Watkins-Wright of Watkins-Wright Hairdressing in Thirsk, North Yorkshire.
